XL Bully Raw Diet Recipes

How many meals these portions make will depend entirely on your Bully, the size of him, and how active he is. So these portions can be meal prep for a day or a few days to a week.

You can always add more vegetables, beans, or meat to the recipe if you want to make a larger batch.

1. Raw Chicken Thighs with Vegetables

Ingredients:

-4 chicken thighs

-2 carrots

-1 celery stalk

-1/2 cup spinach

-A dash of apple cider vinegar

-2 spoons of sour cream

If you want to feed your dog a more calorie-dense meal, you can add a sweet potato or white potato to this recipe. Just make sure to cook the potato first!

Instructions:

1. Start by chopping up the vegetables into small pieces. You can either leave the skin on the chicken or remove it.

2. Add all of the ingredients into a food processor and pulse until everything is combined but still in chunks. If you are using the full thight with bone (leg) you may want to use a meat grinder to mince everything.

3. Add the apple cider vinegar and sour cream and mix it up.

3. Serve to your Bully and watch him enjoy!

2. Raw Beef with Broccoli and Rice

Ingredients:

-1 pound beef

-1 crown broccoli

-1/2 cup rice (either brown or white will be fine)

-A dash of apple cider vinegar

Instructions:

1. Start by cooking the rice according to the package instructions. Once it is done, set it aside to cool.

2. Cut the broccoli into small florets and boil.

3. Add the beef and broccoli into a food processor and pulse until everything is combined but still in chunks.

4. Add in the cooled rice and pulse a few more times until everything is mixed together.

  • Step 3 is optional. You do not need tto use a food processor for bigger dogs or if your dog prefers their food in larger pieces.

How Much Raw Food Should I Feed My XL American Bully?

Determining how much raw food to feed your bully is based on a few different factors. The first is their weight.

A general rule of thumb is to calculate 2-3% of their body weight. So, if your bully weighs 50lbs, their daily raw portion would be 1-1.5lbs of food.

However, this number can fluctuate based on metabolism and activity level. If your bully is very active, they may require more food to maintain their energy levels.

Conversely, if they have a slower metabolism, they may need less food. Lastly, as your bully ages, their needs will change. An adult bully’s diet is based on maintenance instead of the growing support that they needed as a puppy.

As a result, their portion size will be smaller than when they were younger. Ultimately, it’s important to monitor your bully’s weight and consult with a veterinarian to ensure that they are getting the proper nutrition for their individual needs.

Some additional guidelines for portion sizes:

  • Puppies should eat raw portions 3-4 times a day.
  • Adult dogs can eat 1-3 times a day.
  • Senior dogs can eat 1-2 times a day.
  • Adult dogs that are inactive or underweight should consume 3% of their weight in pounds every day.
  • Adult dogs that are elderly, inactive, or overweight should eat 1.5% of their current weight in pounds per day.
  • Dogs between the ages of two and ten years old st their ideal weight should eat approximately 2-3% of their current weight in pounds each day.

Feeding Your American Bully Raw (Measurement Examples)

If your dog weighs 110 pounds, 2% of his body weight is 1kg of raw meat which would then be split into two meals. This could be fed as 500 grams in the morning at 7am and 500 grams at 6pm.

For a puppy, you could go as much as 4% of their body weight, split into two or three meals. So let’s say they’re 35kg, they will need 1400 grams of raw meat split into two or three meals.

I would also recommend adding some duck feet to bring up the bone content in the diet. This helps joint support and mobility as well as providing essential nutrients.

You can either buy these from a pet store or online, or you can ask your local butcher for some.

How Much Raw Meat Should I Feed My American Bully Puppy?

Puppy AgeRaw Meat Percentage
4-6 weeksAmount based on puppy appetite.
7-10 weeks8-10% of ideal body weight
10-16 weeks7-8% of ideal body weight
16-20 weeks6-7% of ideal body weight
20-24 weeks5-6% of ideal body weight
24-36 weeks4-5% of ideal body weight
36-56 weeks3-4% of ideal body weight
56-68 weeks2.5-3.5% of ideal body weight
68+ weeks (Adult)2-3% of ideal body weight

Now, these percentages are dependent on your pup being at ideal body weight. If your pup is under or overweight, you should adjust the amount of food you’re feeding them.

If your pup is too skinny and needs o gain weight, feed them at the higher end of the percentages. If your pup is overweight, feed them at the lower end of the percentages.

How To Feed Your XL Bully A Raw Diet For Free

For many years I have been feeding my bullies for free using the following, anybody can do it:

Visit a few of your local butchers at the end of their business day and ask if they have any meat they are going to discard, most will say yes and give it to you for free.

The following day, visit some local supermarkets, again at the end of their business day, and do the same thing. You will be surprised at how much free meat you can get this way.

Supermarkets are generally hesitant due to lawsuits filed by humans eating their bad food and suing them!

But if you spark up a relationship with the manager or assistant manager, they will often give you meat that is close to its sell-by date and even vegetables that are no longer fresh but still edible.

The key is to build a relationship with these people and always be polite.

My local grocery stores send me a message and let me know when they are doing their nightly stocktake, I simply pop in and help myself to whatever meat or vegetables they are throwing out, it’s that simple. And it is no loss to them!

Some do have deals with local breeders and kennels so if one says “no”, just try another.

Do this a few times per week and you will have more than enough free food to feed your bully.

You do want to ensure the scraps are still fresh enough for your bully, which is why I recommend checking daily and being prepared to make a quick trip if necessary.

I also recommend investing in a good chest freezer so you can store the food until you’re ready to use it.

This is an excellent way to feed your bully a raw diet without breaking the bank!
